Welcome to Daymer Class
We're going on a bee hunt...
Where would they be?
We learnt from our story that they like big open spaces with bright colourful flowers so we headed to the field.
Mini-beast hunt
They were even hiding in the slime.
Then we looked at them closely to work out if it was an insect.
They need 6 legs and wings. Their body's are also in 3 parts.
We looked in our garden to see what mini-beasts we could find.
Walking to the post box
A visit from Lyra
The Enormous Turnip
Then we got to try it. YUM!!
We learnt how to use peelers and knives safely.
The Old Man sent us a Turnip to try.
Expressive Arts and Design
We used our fingers to blend the colours and to create shadows.
And the different colours.
We looked at the shapes we could see.
Helping birds to keep warm and survive the winter
The importance of looking after our teeth
Lights up!
This term our curriculum is heavily influenced by the calendar. We look at festivals and celebrations from around the world. This includes Diwali, Fireworks Night, Hanukah, Remembrance Day and Christmas. All of these use light as part of their celebration and we encourage children to consider other uses of light, how to create light as well as how to stay safe around flames and electricity.
Special Places
We took a trip to Camelford Methodist Chapel to learn about how this church is used to celebrate Christmas. We met Rev. Steve and his wife who showed us around the church, told us stories and sang songs.
Story
We listened carefully to the story and then had a go at retelling it using the wooden figures.
Nativity Scene
We identified all the characters from the nativity in thsi scene.
This Nativity set is very special to our teacher.
Stories
WE looked at differnt books that told the nativity and spotted all the characters.
Angels
We talked about the angels from the Nativity and then had a go at making them bright and colourful.
Read, Write, Inc
At Camelford Primary, we follow the RWI programme. We start this from the very first day by introducing the picture cards. From there children are taught a new sound everyday with regular opportunities to recall what they have learnt. This is supported by extra opportunities to mark make and engage with phonic games.
Maths
Stories and songs play a key part in our EYFS maths Curriculum. Children are provided with short whole class sessions and then opportunities to engage with adult led and child initiated learning. Continous provision is carefully planned and aims to follow the childrens interests as well as developing thier mathematical thinking.
Castles
The children enjoyed building 'castles' using the 3D shapes. We challenged them to see if they could make the castles in the pictures we gave them.
Homes for the Teddies
The children love reading/telling stories to the teddies in the reading corner so we asked them to build a home big enough for them.
Comparing
In this adult led activity children built the tallest tower they could and then we compared them to find which was the tallest and shortest. Children were introduced and encouraged to use stem sentences. For example: My tower is taller than your tower but shorter than Mrs' tower.
The Little Red Hen
Talk for writing
Children have learnt the story of Little Red Hen ready to perform at our Harvest Festival. The story shows the importance of helping each other as well as providing opportunities for children to learn story language, develop sentences and become a story teller.
Vocabulary is a big focus in this unit and we aim to develop that by providing new and exciting experiences for the children. This includes interviewing and meeting new people, baking, apple picking and team building activities.
Helping each other
This unit also focuses on identifying people around us who can help. This includes people at home, school and the wider community.
Children are introduced to Winston our school dog as well as the adults in our school and what thier roles are. Children are supported and encouraged to ask questions.
Harvesting - apple picking
We went on our first trip on Tuesday: to a nearby orchard and picked apples. We then looked at ordering them in size and weight.
We ay also have enjoyed splashing in the puddles to see who could make the biggest splash.
Today we enjoyed tasting them and comparing the taste to other apples from the supermarket. We then voted for our favourite: the sweeter apples were a clear favourite.
