Our Curriculum
At Camelford Primary we are forever developing and improving our curriculum to ensure it is always meeting the needs of our learners and that we are offering an exciting, engaging curriculum.
We have been on a curriculum journey since 2019 when we designed and created our bespoke curriculum right here at home. This was a great opportunity for us to really think about what we want in a curriculum and what our children at Camelford Primary really need. At the time, we could not find what we were looking for in an off-the-shelf curriculum so we created our own which is embedded with key knowledge, vocabulary and skills. Our curriculum offers opportunities to develop citizenship and personal development. Learning sequences are designed to link and build so pupils remember and are excited about learning.
Since then, we have taken our time to hand-pick the best commercial resources we can to drive our pupils' learning. We have made changes and dovetailed them into our curriculum adjusting where needed. We use different schemes to deliver the intent of our curriculum.
Our Humanities Curriculum has had a major change this year. We liked our curriculum but we love this curriculum. KS2's 'Opening Worlds' curriculum is ambitious, embedded with key knowledge and vocabulary, and is proven to work in schools like ours.
This curriculum is designed to build on prior learning which is all carefully linked to ensure pupils make strong connections to new knowledge and so all pupils will cover the first year's learning this year and move through the programme of study. Year 6s programme will vary slightly to ensure ensure that all of our pupils have successfully covered the national curriculum prior to leaving for secondary.
