THE IMPLEMENTATION
|
From Reception through to Year 6, our learning is sequenced so that new knowledge and skills build on from previous learning. Enrichment activities and high-quality texts are carefully chosen to enhance learning. Teachers present the learning opportunities in engaging ways and offer challenging opportunities to engage pupils. We have taken the best of the best and have created a rich, challenging curriculum. We use the following schemes to deliver our curriculum:
The school has a clear assessment plan for children in each subject area. Subject coordinators ensure teachers know the age-related expectations for each year group. Pupil's learning is formally assessment termly in maths, reading, and writing. Assessment goes on throughout lessons and between lessons enabling teachers to better understand pupils' next steps of learning. We believe that our curriculum gives children real opportunities to develop key social skills, understand the difference between right and wrong, explore their own spirituality, show respect, celebrate difference and diversity, and understand the values that underpin a democratic society. Our curriculum ensures that our pupils leave us valuing learning, each other, themselves in the world community, and the environment- which are our school values. NOTE: As Opening Worlds is a Humanities curriculum that requires specific prior knowledge, skills and vocabulary, all pupils in KS2 are currently following the first year of the programme this year. The rolling programme of implementation is enabling all pupils to gain the grounding required to access the future years of the programme. A gap analysis in history, geography and RE ensures that all pupils cover the full national curriculum for KS2 prior to moving on to KS3. |
