Welcome from two of our Year 6 Pupils
Welcome to our fun school. Our names are Sophia and Euan and we are in Year 6. We have lots of fun here at Camelford Primary School. We think you would enjoy it here too.
At playtime, we have different equipment such as hula hoops, skipping ropes and footballs etc.For the gymnasts, three bars are available and don’t worry footballers - there are football pitches on both the field and playground. The playground is for when the field is wet and slippery. In the field there are climbing frames scattered across the left hand side of the field. In the middle section there is a summer house where we can gather. Towards the left of the field there is a football pitch with two goals. Along the top of the field there is a log house with plants surrounding it. We have a woodland with a parkour course and sections of wilderness. We have a new area called the construction site in the playground . Here you can build multiple dens with our different resources. We both agree that during break time we always have things to occupy us.
We have two different libraries: one is from the year 5/6 block and the other one is for the whole school. If you enjoy reading, there are lots of different books that you can read !You can also take them home but don't lose them! We now use Sparx reading to quiz on books and we have so many different book levels for more fluent readers and younger children . We love Sparx because it helps us to want to read more stories.Inside the library, there are plenty of sofas and cushions to help you get comfy when reading and we even have a laptop trolley for children who would like to play around on child-friendly games and websites, such as the BBC.
At Camelford, we have lots of Chromebooks as well as tablets . We enjoy playing fun learning games such as Kahoot, Blooket and all the minigames on Mathsframe and Topmarks.
At the start of each term, you can join one, or multiple, of our after school clubs. These clubs include Camel Kids, where you can have free time inside or outside the school. Another club is the football club, where you can learn to play and enjoy football with your friends. The football club is hosted by Plymouth Argyle workers and there are younger and older year groups. There are a lot of different clubs if you prefer other activities such as art, music and even board games!
Some other things we like about our school are: you can get a music session with someone who will help you learn more about the instrument. We love the fact that on Fridays, we have a praise assembly which boosts our confidence towards learning (parents are even allowed to come along and congratulate their child's achievement). On Mondays, we have an assembly where our headteacher gives us an inspiring speech. It’s a great way to start the week.
Our three school promises are: We are Safe, We are Ready and We are Respectful and so…. We are Fabulous! Every class in the school has a special chart to show which children have been following our 3 school promises. We call this a Dojo chart. Every time a child does extra-well in a lesson, the teachers can award them with one or two Dojos. Every fifty Dojos a child gets a special prize to celebrate that they have reached their goal
We can go on forever about our wonderful school but we are going to leave you hanging. Why don't you come along and join our school?
Sophia and Euan
Welcome to Camelford Primary School.
I am incredibly proud to be Headteacher of such a special school, where every person matters. At Camelford, we want every child to feel that they belong, to know that they are valued and to be supported and challenged to become the very best version of themselves.
We are ambitious for every child. We want our pupils to achieve their full potential, develop a genuine love of learning and leave us well prepared for the next stage of their education. Just as importantly, we believe that education is about far more than academic success. We have an important role in helping children develop the character, confidence and values they need to make a positive contribution to the world around them.
Our school values of Integrity, Resilience, Aspiration and Community are at the heart of everything we do. We encourage our children to do the right thing, even when no one is watching; to persevere when things are difficult; to aim high and believe in what they can achieve; and to understand the importance of looking after one another, our community and the wider world. These values help us to develop thoughtful, responsible and compassionate young people who are ready to play their part as citizens of the future.
Alongside our values, our three school promises, ‘We are Safe’, ‘We are Ready’ and ‘We are Respectful’, provide simple, clear expectations for how we learn, behave and treat one another. Together, our values and promises create a culture in which children feel safe to take risks, learn from mistakes, celebrate success and be proud of who they are.
We want every child to look back on their time at Camelford with happy memories and a strong sense that they were known, valued and believed in. We want them to leave us confident, resilient, proud and ambitious, with a strong sense of belonging and an understanding that they can make a difference.
Our children are our greatest ambassadors and the very best way to experience what makes Camelford special is to come and see us. If you are considering Camelford for your child, or would simply like to know more about our school, I would be delighted to welcome you, show you around and introduce you to the children and adults who make our school such a wonderful place.

'I am a Cornish Child' - Learning about Diversity
Inspired by the poem, 'I am an African Child', our pupils investigated, compared and debated what it is to be Cornish. They thought about culture, experience and perspective. They reflected on what it means to be growing up in Cornwall in 2021 and then classes created a performance poem of their own, 'I am a Cornish Child'. Have a listen and enjoy.
This work was part of a 3 week topic focussing on Cornwall as a sense of place and included a trip to Roughtor, an art exhibition and learning a Harry Glasson song, 'Cornwall, My Home'. Harry visited school and inspired the children to be proud of who they are and where they come from.

SECRETARY OF STATE FOR EDUCATION PRAISES CAMELFORD COMMUNITY PRIMARY SCHOOL
Our pupils and staff are celebrating today after we received a special letter of congratulations from the Secretary of State for Education, The Rt Hon Bridget Phillipson MP.
The letter recognises the excellent outcomes that disadvantaged pupils across our school achieved at the end of the 2024/25 academic year, noting that our school’s performance places us among the very best nationally.
Our Headteacher, Anne Howard said:
“We don’t do what we do for recognition, but I’m really pleased that our staff have been recognised for their hard work and commitment to offering our pupils the very best education. It is always heartening to see our efforts acknowledged at the very highest level.”
We are joined in our celebrations by six other primary and secondary schools which are part of West Country Schools Trust (WeST) who received similar praise from the Education Secretary – a sign of our group’s collective achievement and strength.
Nat Parnell, CEO at WeST, said:
"This recognition from the Secretary of State is testament to the unwavering dedication of our staff and the determination of our pupils. Across Westcountry Schools Trust, we believe that every child deserves the very best opportunities to succeed, regardless of their background. To see seven of our schools recognised among the best in the country for outcomes for disadvantaged pupils is something we are immensely proud of.
“This success belongs to the teachers, support staff, and school leaders who go above and beyond every single day to make a difference. Thank you also to our parents and families for their enduring support and whose role within our schools is so important.”
In her letter to our school, the Secretary of State for Education said:
“This success reflects the dedication of your staff and the hard work of your pupils. It shows what can be achieved when ambition and commitment come together. Thank you for everything you do to give children the best possible opportunities to succeed.”
