Physical Education
At our school, we believe that Physical Education (PE) is an essential part of every child's development. We are passionate about inspiring children to enjoy being active, develop healthy habits and discover a lifelong love of sport and physical activity.
PE is about so much more than physical fitness. It plays an important role in supporting children's mental health and wellbeing, helping them to build confidence, resilience and a positive mindset. Through physical activity, children learn to manage challenges, celebrate achievements and experience the happiness that comes from being active.
We aim to provide a fun, inclusive and engaging PE curriculum where every child feels valued and has the opportunity to succeed. Whether working as part of a team, learning a new skill or challenging themselves to try something different, we encourage children to develop teamwork, determination, respect and sportsmanship.
Above all, we want every child to feel confident, happy and inspired to be active, both during their time at our school and beyond.
Working in Partnership with Arena
At our school, we work closely with Arena Sports Partnership to provide high-quality PE opportunities for our children and to support the professional development of our staff.
Every Wednesday, we welcome Mrs Roberts from Arena, who delivers engaging PE lessons to our children while working alongside our teachers to develop their confidence, knowledge and skills in teaching PE.
This year's focus is on gymnastics and dance, helping children develop their coordination, balance, creativity and confidence, while supporting staff in delivering high-quality lessons.
We also work with Arena to participate in Camelford Cluster sporting events, giving children opportunities to represent our school, experience a range of sports and compete alongside other local schools.
These partnerships help us promote teamwork, sportsmanship and a love of physical activity, both within and beyond the classroom.
KS2 Swimming
Swimming is an essential part of our PE curriculum, helping children develop confidence, water safety awareness and important life-saving skills. We work in partnership with Camelford Leisure Centre and we are so lucky to be a short walk away from their facilities.
In line with the National Curriculum requirements, we provide swimming lessons for children in Key Stage 2, supporting them to develop their swimming ability and become safe and confident in the water.
By the end of Year 6, the government expects pupils to be able to:
- Swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres.
- Use a range of strokes effectively, such as front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke.
- Perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations.
We recognise the importance of swimming as a vital life skill, particularly living in Cornwall, where we are surrounded by beautiful beaches, rivers and coastal environments.
Our aim is to ensure that every child has the opportunity to develop the skills, knowledge and confidence needed to enjoy the water safely.
Competition Kit
Last year, we were delighted to invest in new school sports kit for our children to wear when representing our school at sporting competitions and events.
We believe it is important for our pupils to look smart, feel confident and take pride in representing their school. Wearing our school colours helps create a sense of belonging, teamwork and school spirit.
We are incredibly proud of the children who represent our school and demonstrate determination, respect and excellent sportsmanship at every event.
